Keep Britain out of Middle Eastern Wars, Andrew Brons Warns

British soldiers must not be deployed in any future Middle Eastern conflicts which will replace Arab dictators with militant Islamists, Andrew Brons MEP has warned.

Speaking today during the European parliament’s plenary session on North Africa and the Middle East, Mr Brons said that Britain’s involvement in Libya “was ostensibly to oppose repression and promote democracy. However, Gaddafi was already unpopular with the West for his policy of the Golden Dinar (to be used) for trading oil.

“Bashar Assad [of Syria], who initially showed great promise, has shown himself to be as violent repressive as Gaddafi,” Mr Brons continued.

“However, neither Gaddafi nor Assad are militant Islamists. It would be a great disaster if they were to be replaced by Islamists.

“Yemen is a country to which Al Qaida has allegedly moved its training operations. I hope that we shall not be tempted to engage in yet another bloody conflict,” Mr Brons said.

“We must not see British or other European soldiers lured into so-called peace-making operations in Syria or anywhere else in the region. Furthermore, we cannot assume that democracy will flourish in the infertile soil of Arab countries,” he concluded, alluding to the total lack of any form of democratic systems even in nations such as Egypt which supposedly “overthrew” its dictator several months ago but has quietly slipped back into military authoritarianism.
