If the inhabitants of countries in North Africa sought a better life by engaging in “democratic revolutions” to overthrow despots, why do so many of them want to come to Europe?
This question was posed to the EU subcommittee meeting of the Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) in Brussels by Andrew Brons MEP today.
Speaking during a debate on a review of the “European Neighbourhood Policy” (the EU’s policy which deals with those countries on its borders), Mr Brons said that the “report speaks with approval of the struggles for democracy in countries on the Southern Mediterranean shore and I have no disagreement with that sentiment.
“However, it also refers to the right of mobility as being a human right for which they were fighting.
“Why did they go to so much trouble, including danger and terrific loss of life, to make their countries democratic and fit to be lived in free from oppression, if we are to presume, probably quite correctly, that the first right that they wish to exercise is the right of emigration to Europe, either through official channels or by misuse of visa relaxation to settle illegally or perhaps as refugees fleeing from peace and democracy?”
Untold thousands of Africans have invaded southern Europe since the outbreak of the so-called “Arab Spring” earlier this year. On the Italian island of Lampedusa, for example, officials have warned of a public health risk after the tiny territory was overrun with several thousand invaders who now vastly outnumber the local population.
The invaders have arrived on boats from Egypt, Tunisia and Libya, all nations which have supposedly overthrown their dictators and are “on the road to democracy,”
Before the uprising in Libya, the Italian government had struck a deal with Muammar Gaddafi whereby most boats were returned to that country along with their occupants. The collapse of the Gadaffi regime has seen the end of this scheme.
‘The Right of Mobility’
What utter, utter bullsh*t.
Such a ‘right’ has never, ever existed or has been respected.
– Just one small example what ‘right of mobility’ has a British citizen got to walk in the private grounds of Buckingham Palace?
Why come here?…………….
1. The “benefits” are better.
2. They know something we don’t…….. yet.
3. See 1.
There is no such thing as a democratic revolution. Democracy involves a civilized election process; revolution involves force of arms.
( Party Member ) Australia also has a problem with ‘ boat people ‘ but common sense has prevailed. New Prime Minister Tony Abbott, has vowed to “swiftly implement Operation Sovereign Borders “. ( what a GREAT NAME ) aimed at ” intercepting vessels and turning them around “. The Labour Party Government was hit by a ‘ landslide ‘ by the Nationalist / Liberal Coalition who are GETTING TOUGH ON IMMIGRATION. Britain and indeed Europe needs the same attitude ! ‘ Good on yer mate ! ! !
