Remember the risks to staying in the EU’s Single Market? The BBC obviously hasn’t, argues Rory Broomfield.
It may have been my imagination but didn’t Leave win the referendum? From my (admittedly hazy) memory of June 24th, I was under the impression that roughly 17.4 million people voted for the UK to leave the European Union in the largest democratic vote for anything in the UK’s history. Despite this though, it seems that the BBC still hasn’t got the message – and has a vapid memory of what was claimed about the Single Market during the campaign.
The risks of remaining in the Single Market were made clear in the referendum campaign – not least by the erudite Dan Hannan MEP. On this website, both John Redwood and John Mills have recently sought to explain and reiterate the benefits of our future outside the regulations of the Single Market, including by mitigating the risks.
However, the BBC’s insistence on describing what they see as “hard Brexit” compared with what they describe as “soft Brexit” is nauseating, and doesn’t just naturally prefer debate about an “EEA / EFTA” option, but also misses the point.
It came to a head when Radio 4’s Today Programme interviewed Lord Lawson who, on being asked his views on “hard Brexit” said, quite rightly, that he preferred the term “clean Brexit”. Yet that, of course, hasn’t deterred the Beeb from using the phrase as if it wishes to constantly emphasise the difficulty that would – it tries to suggest – be associated with leaving the EU’s Single Market. In contrast, what Lord Lawson said during the referendum campaign – that the alternative to being in the EU is not being in the EU – seems to suggest that leaving might actually be the easier option.
The corporation during the campaign claimed it was neutral – even too worried about its impartiality, according to one presenter, but since the referendum the gloves have seemed to come off. We seem to be hearing more about the benefits of the single market and the risks of leaving rather than the other way around. This is a mistake. It also misses an opportunity.
The goal should be now to embrace a free trading future with the EU without getting drawn back into it. If the BBC were to ignore voices looking at this, it would be making a mistake and limit the terms of debate and discussion over the wider possibilities that are there for the taking outside the Single Market.
So my plea to BBC executives is, next time you are thinking about debating the EU, think to yourself how you can create a discussion and use language that embraces all the potential scenarios. Indeed, why not reframe the debate to look at how the UK can take advantage of all the trade deals that it can now make with the rest of the world?
There’s a world of opportunity out there. If only the BBC could see it.

The B.B.C. has been an ever increasing EMBARASMENT to our Country for decades now. Dubbed the BOLSHEVIC BROADCASTING CORPORATION at Conservative Central Office , our National Broadcaster gets worse and worse as time goes on !
There is no need for debate on Brexit, ‘hard’ or otherwise.It is merely a smokescreen to deflect attention from the fact nothing is being done to facilitate Britain’s exit from the EU. If the public had voted to remain we would not still be debating the subject now. The 3 mainstream parties are all pro EU, hence no dissent from the opposition on the Tories lack of action. Cameron only promised a referendum as he feared losing votes to UKIP, expecting to form a coalition with the Lib-Dems, when the referendum would ‘unfortunately’ have to be ditched as part of the agreement. £9M of taxpayers money was poured into the ‘Remain’ campaign,denying taxpayers money to the ‘Leave’ campaign. Similar tricks were played in the 1975 referendum.Huge funds were available to the European Movement which headed the campaign to stay in whose offices were in Whitehall Place one of the most expensive areas of London and they had a full time staff of 40. The Common Market Safeguards Campaign which headed the leave campaign rented a small shop on Fulham High Street and operated with a tiny number of staff.
The most obvious potential benefit to Britain of Brexit is not free trading Liberalism as most Brexit spokespersons seem to think That is the economic policy that has created many of our problems such as the low wage economy, the loss of our industrial base and unemployment. Brexit gives us the opportunity to rebuild our economy behind protective walls when necessary.
This policy, coupled with a Nationalist. monetary system will enable us to cure all these ills. The ultimate aim must be that Britain imports only the products that we are incapable of making or growing ourselves.
Common sense from ‘solutrean’. Our political masters seem hell bent on only leaving the EU provided they can still find a way of sabotaging what is left of our manufacturing industry and economy! Is there no-one who will put British interests before that of the International Banking System?

I feel the BBC has become so corrupt ,the vast majority seek their news elsewhere. A problem as most news agencies,are if not as corrupt, still engaging in misdirection . Many I hear now use RT ‘ Russia Today’. Not as there sole news station, but as well as others, thereby getting a cross section, which they can then disseminate at their leisure.
Back in the day Russia’s State Paper was called ‘Pravda’ which in English translates as ‘Truth’ A cause of great amusement by all others rather than die hard commies.
How ironic that the tables have turned. Still as the BBC is packed out, with die hard commies, its really no surprise is it.
baz4545 is right that Russia Today is a better source of news than the Bolshevic Broadcasting Corporation ! How did Britain get to a situation where there are more Commies here in the B.B.C. and indeed the LIEBOR PARTY ! The answer is easy. The electorate ignored us Nationalists that’s how. Somehow we have to break the stranglehold that the no standards people have over our media.
I note with interest that the Bolshevic Broadcasting Corporation has not mentioned the terrible fact that MOST LIEBOUR Members of parliament were scared to go to their own conference ! The violence usually dished out to us Nationalists and others , like the Police , is now being dished out to ONE ANOTHER ! Now these hypocritical M.P. ‘S , who refuse to live in their own Constituency’s , KNOW WHAT IT IS LIKE !
Any pretence of impartiality from the BBC now goes right out the window. For starters, their new radio boss is ex Labour minister James Purnell…and as if that is’nt bad enough, a talented presenter Jon Holmes has been sacked because he is a White male.
Many years ago, Confucius taught us that shared values and traditions help bind people together in communities. The shared meanings that are vital to a harmonious society can NEVER be attained through the divisive anti culture ideology known as ”multiculturalism” : Keeping everyone happy becomes an impossible juggling act.
The pandering, social engineering and ”positive discrimination” we are now forced to accept on a daily basis from the BBC and Co is only in place because of the artificiality of the situation in the first place.
Talking about the horrible media and it’s CAMPAIGN TO DESTROY OUR DECENT NATIONALISM ,have you noticed the false ‘ racist attack batch of fake or at the very least , misleading stories ? A couple of months ago , large headlines discussed the murder of an Islamic Iman of some Mosque. The media gleefully described his advanced age and how much he had done for ‘ his community ‘ and debated how brexit had encouraged us Nationalists to attack Immigrants ! A few weeks later , as suspected by many of us , it emerged that he had been foully murdered by one of his fellow worshipers ! Not surprisingly it was all due to a power battle within the mosque ! This was only reported in a couple of lines on the BBC text service ! The HEADLINES were gone with the JOB DONE IN SMEARING ALL PATRIOTIC PEOPLE. p.s. A POLE was murdered recently and amidst similar headlines a MARCH AGAINST RACISM was held. What are the odds that the terrible murder was done by ANOTHER POLE ?
Just read an article on the msn that says British People are going to leave Britain because of the BREXIT VOTE. What a load of rubbish and then amazingly it gets worse ! The article says these people are all going to live in NEW ZEALAND because it is MULTI-CULTURAL ! No it isn’t and anyway if anyone was DISTURBED enough to feel that way , they could move to Brixton or Tower Hamlets for a dose of MULTI-CULTURAL HELL ! The person who wrote that article is obviously one of those contrasting , hypocritical , wealthy lefty theorists who , earning good money in our horrible media twisting things , LIVES IN A LOVELY , LARGE HOUSE IN THE COUNTRYSIDE and just tells everyone else where and how to live !
Although ably backed by others , as my previous comment shows , the Bolshevic Broadcasting Corporation are leaders in the field of MIS-INFORMATION. When British People leave our shores for sunny SPAIN and Portugal , they live in exclusive British Communities and often come from places like MULTI CULTURAL LONDON ,where they have felt totally overwhelmed. IT IS CALLED WHITE FLIGHT !
John, it would seem that the general rule is that if enough mud is slung in a certain direction then at least some of it will stick, regardless of whether the media reports are accurate, innacurate or blatantly untrue.
Remember the Muslim man from Loughton Essex, who claimed he had been kidnapped by a certain Nationalist group…? it got on the front page of the Evening Standard …and yet when it was rumbled that he had cooked up the entire story himself, not so much as a squeak about it.
The tactics of coverage for crimes against whites is almost always to describe it as either ‘unprovoked’ or ‘motiveless’ …thankfully, most whites are to some extent more aware of the double standards of the BBC, and the media in general, then they used to be.
A further example of the TRASHING OF THE NAME OF NATIONALISM , by the Bolshevic Broadcasting Corporation and others in the Media , was when the Liebour M.P. for Batley and Spen was MURDERED . They portrayed hard left Joe Cox as a HEROIC VICTEM OF VICOUS , WICKED NATIONALISM ! What a TRAVESTY OF THE TRUTH ! Batley and Spen is a typical example of an area where the people are TOTALLY HOODWINKED BY THE LIEBOUR PARTY ! Despite the fact that when you look at the POLICIES of soft spoken , con artist Joe Cox , most of them are designed to keep working class people down and yet this area votes Liebour , with the large ASIAN VOTE , whoever is the candidate.
