The outrageous asylum swindle costs British taxpayers a whopping £2 million every day, or a grand £10 billion since 1999, and over 77 percent of all “asylum seekers” get to stay even if their applications are rejected.
According to a new study issued by Migrationwatch, available on their website here, only “a quarter of those who sought asylum in the UK between 1997 and 2010 were granted asylum, including those granted on appeal.
“A further one in seven were granted other forms of protection so 60% were eventually refused altogether,” Migrationwatch said in a press release.
“Of those refused only just over one third were removed with the result that anyone claiming asylum in Britain had a 77% chance of staying here – more often than not illegally. The study also found that, in recent years, the majority of applications (59%) were lodged only after the applicant had been detected.
“The cost to the tax payer, including the cost of legal aid and the cost of the immigration courts was close to £10 billion or nearly £2.3 million a day over the period.”
In addition, the study said, the proportion of asylum seekers granted protection in France was found to be significantly lower than in the UK. This is obviously because the benefits that are handed out in Britain are significantly better than anywhere else.
“The asylum system has proved to be a £10 billion shambles,” said Sir Andrew Green, Chairman of Migration Watch UK.
Sir Andrew also called on a crackdown on what he called the “bogus” asylum seekers. “It is absurd, for example, that we should allow people who have been in Britain illegally for years to claim asylum so as to delay or prevent their removal; this now applies to almost 60% of claimants,” he said.
“It is a pity that the lawyers have been so remarkably silent all these years. The failure of the UK Border Agency to implement the decisions of the immigration appeal courts reduces their activities to a charade and brings the rule of law into disrepute.”
In reality, the situation is far worse than what Sir Andrew or Migrationwatch dare say. There are in fact no real or non-bogus asylum seekers at all in Britain. All of them have crossed dozens of safe countries in order to enter Britain and parasite off the British taxpayer.
According to international conventions, people are only allowed to seek asylum in the first safe country bordering the one they have fled. Britain therefore has no obligation to accept “asylum seekers” from across the world and a normal government would simply send them all packing.
A summary of the main points in the Migrationwatch study makes shocking reading:
* The chaos which developed in a system swamped by the number of applications at the turn of the century means that only broad conclusions can be drawn.
* 660,000 decisions were made over the period of 1997-2010 as a result of which 23 percent of claimants were removed (including voluntary returns).
* Taking the period as a whole, nearly 77 percent of those who claimed asylum are still in the UK, just over half of them illegally.
* Cohort analysis by the Home Office covering 2004 to 2009 showed that 23 percent were granted asylum (including on appeal) while a further 10 percent were given some form of protection. 62 percent were refused. In 6 percent of cases a decision has not been reached or is unknown.
* In the period 2008 to 2010, 59 percent of applications were lodged only after the applicant had been detected, suggesting that seeking refuge was not the primary purpose for coming to the UK.
* Eurostat data for 2010 suggests that, in France, 14 percent of applications were granted asylum at the first instance compared to 27 percent in the UK. In 2009 the overall percentage of grants, including on appeal, was 19 percent in France and 28 percent in Britain.
* The cost of the asylum system since 1999 is close to £10 billion, including legal aid and the cost of the courts involved.
